Servant of the Lake Demo Codes

235 for sugar, 728 for the black bird egg — plus rejection troubleshooting.

All Demo Codes

The Servant of the Lake Demo uses only two numeric codes that players must enter on keypad locks: 235 for the mandatory breakfast cabinet and 728 for an optional easter egg box. No other Demo puzzle resolves to a three-digit safe combination— carriage cups use stripe order, Aldous’s exercise copies a toy soldier, and the patterned dresser box is a rotation puzzle rather than a number pad.

This page lists every confirmed code, the exact object that accepts it, what you receive, and whether the step is required to finish the Demo. Cross-links point to dedicated guides when a code is only one part of a longer chain.

Code quick reference

CodeLocationRequired?Reward
235Locked cabinet below the small pot shelf (right-side upper room)YesBottle of sugar for porridge
728Locked box easter egg (same cabinet area or associated lock)NoBlack bird egg for wall-hand chain

If you need the portrait logic behind 235, read the portrait code guide. For stove steps after sugar is unlocked, see porridge recipe. The optional 728 chain is narrated step-by-step on the easter egg guide.

Code 235 — breakfast cabinet (required)

Where to enter: Go upstairs on the right side of the entrance hall. Take the small pot from the shelf, then interact with the locked cabinet directly beneath it.

How to learn it: Visit three family portraits in order and count their animations:

  1. Aldous Vanderboom — shakes his pocket watch three times.
  2. Alexandra Vanderboom — raises two fingers.
  3. William Vanderboom — blinks five times.

Enter 235 (three, then two, then five). The cabinet opens; take the sugar. Without sugar, the porridge chain cannot complete and Aldous will reject breakfast later even if milk and oats are correct.

If 235 is rejected: Let each portrait animation finish completely before counting. Spam-clicking during a shake or blink makes the digits harder to read but does not change the solution. Revisit portraits in the order above, not alphabetical or room order.

Code 728 — easter egg locked box (optional)

Where to enter: The easter egg uses a separate locked box associated with the Demo’s hidden bird-egg reward. Enter 728 on that keypad before you commit to Aldous’s bedroom sequence if you want the full secret on a first run.

Reward: A black bird egg. Give it to the hand in the wall hole (reachable during the Demo’s early house exploration) to receive a hint paper tied to trailer imagery and broader Rusty Lake lore.

Required to finish? No. Skipping 728 does not block porridge, the morning routine, or the guest carriage ending. Many speed runs ignore it; completionists should follow the easter egg guide for hand-and-egg ordering.

Origin: Community and official trailer material point to 728 as the intended easter egg combination. It is distinct from 235 and must not be swapped— the breakfast cabinet will not accept 728.

Codes that are NOT number pads

Understanding what is not a code prevents wasted backtracking.

  • Carriage tin cups — Arrange five cups by ascending stripe count (one through five) to release the coachman’s coin. No digits involved.
  • Toy soldier exercise — Direction sequence Left, Right, Down, Right, Right, Down for Aldous after breakfast. See the Demo walkthrough for timing.
  • Patterned dresser box — Rotate tiles with the central disc until patterns align; yields the razor, not a keypad code.
  • Clock face — Set to 7:00 (short hand on VII, long hand on XII) to wake Aldous; this is a time puzzle, not a three-digit safe.
  1. Sign the servant contract and receive the breakfast assignment from the maid.
  2. Collect milk, pot, mouse-for-matches chain, kitchen wood and oats.
  3. Solve portraits for 235, unlock sugar, finish porridge.
  4. Optional: enter 728, complete easter egg before Aldous’s room.
  5. Continue bedroom puzzles including insect berries— no further numeric codes in the Demo ending.

Full game speculation (clearly labeled)

The premium release on August 13, 2026 is expected to expand the Vanderboom estate beyond the Demo’s entrance, kitchen, upstairs shelf, and Aldous bedroom. Rusty Lake has not published additional safe combinations for unreleased rooms. Any future codes will be added to this page after verified play, with Demo-only values kept in the table above for replay reference.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What are all the codes in the Servant of the Lake Demo?

Only two numeric codes are confirmed: 235 for the sugar cabinet and 728 for the optional easter egg locked box. Other puzzles use patterns, sequences, or inventory chains instead of keypads.

Can I use 728 on the breakfast cabinet?

No. The breakfast cabinet accepts 235 only. Code 728 belongs to the separate easter egg box documented on the easter egg guide.

Is code 235 the same as the portrait safe code?

Yes. The three portrait animations— three watch shakes, two fingers, five blinks— combine into 235 for the locked cabinet below the upstairs pot shelf.

Do I need the 728 easter egg to finish the Demo?

No. The black bird egg and hint paper are optional. You can complete Aldous's routine and see the guest carriage without ever entering 728.

Why does the game reject my code even though I counted correctly?

Make sure you are at the correct lock— 235 for sugar, 728 for the easter egg box. Let portrait animations finish before counting, and confirm you collected the small pot from the shelf above the breakfast cabinet first if the game expects that progression.
